The ASU Master Plan employs a series of master planning strategies that provide the spatial framework for future campus development. The primary objective in developing an open space strategy for ASU is to create an even distribution of strategic open spaces across campus. The open space system consists of a range of functional scales including a network of academic quadrangles, pedestrian malls articulated with large canopy trees, new recreational fields, and green gateways or 'windows' into the campus.
