DREXEL UNIVERSITY - 32ND STREET PEDESTRIAN MALL

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

Developed by closing a city street on campus and employing a quadrangle-like pattern of paths and plantings, the 32nd Street Pedestrian Mall strengthens the Academic Block, provides an important pedestrian circulation link to the University’s main academic buildings, and provides needed green space for the students, faculty, and staff. The 32nd Street Pedestrian Mall incorporates the statue of the University founder, bosques of five different species of trees, varied mass plantings, fixed tables, chairs and benches, and a terraced water feature.
