Designed as one of the anticipated locations for the games of the 2002 World Cup Soccer Tournament, the stadium for 60,000 attendees is located on a 31-hectare site now designated as part of the city’s “urban environmental green area.” The site offers many opportunities for recreation including tennis courts, soccer fields, and even small hills for wintertime skiing and sledding, all encompassed within the design of dramatic landforms which draws its inspiration from the surrounding landscape.
