SHAW CENTER FOR THE ARTS
BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA
A major component of the revitalization of downtown Baton Rouge, the Arts Block is the new home for the LSU Museum of Art, a community theatre complex, including art incubator space for Louisiana State University's Department of Art designed by Schwartz/Silver Architects, and Eskew+Dumez+Ripple. The historic site, across from the Old State Capitol, affords panoramic views across the Mississippi River to the west. The plaza marks the block as a special place within downtown with a pair of interactive fountains and a unique paving strategy recalling the flow and rippling of the nearby Mississippi. A grove of majestic, heritage oak trees are preserved in the center of the plaza.
