Shepherds Bush Common Competition
London, UK
Hargreaves Associates, serving as lead consultant, was one of six teams selected by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham to develop concept designs for improvements to Shepherds Bush Common. Twenty Eight teams submitted qualifications for the first stage of the competition. At the heart of a vibrant and culturally diverse neighbourhood in West London, the site was granted Common Land status under the Metropolitan Commons Act 1871. The Common now consists of an eight acre ‘urban square’ at the heart of Shepherds Bush town centre. Shepherd’s Bush is a popular residential area, and the re-design of this important public space will provide impetus to further regenerate retail and commercial areas. The Common has been underused and in decline for many years due to a lack of public investment, but remains an extremely valuable ‘green lung’ in an intensely urban environment. Hargreaves Associates submitted full tender documentation on Thursday August 30, 2007.
