Ritz-Carlton 2200 M Street Hotel and Residences
Washington, D.C.
Cascading from the 5th to Ground Level, the courtyards for this residential and mixed use development in Washington D.C. follow the course of the fountain system and are built entirely on structure. Beginning on the 5th Level in runnels set below the paving, the water spills over a stepped cascade to the moat and island on the 4th Level, before plunging down a waterfall to the bamboo grove on the Ground Level. The path that connects the levels moves from a dense grove of trees on the Ground Level to greater openness as it ascends. The architects are Gary Handel Associates and the developers are Millennium Partners.
