SYDNEY OLYMPICS 2000 — NORTHERN WATER FEATURE

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Water events are located at the high point of the site, and at the lower northern end of Olympic Plaza. The plaza terraces down to meet a newly created wetland at the edge of Haslam’s Creek. Here, the Northern Water Feature Wetland fountain projects arcing rows of water into a newly created wetland and engages the surrounding landscape. In the sculptural landscape created by the 4.5 acres of wetlands, native plants filter and cleanse the storm water as it moves through the ponds. This water is then used for irrigation on the site, or is introduced into the adjacent creek water and river, improving the water quality of those systems.
