Hargreaves Associates spearheaded the design of this $34M project at Crissy Field to configure a naturally sustaining tidal marsh that conformed to the rigid hydrological constraints for functioning, as well as responded to the public and National Parks Service perception of what a tidal marsh should look like. Additionally, Hargreaves met the politically stipulated mandates for minimum acre-feet of tidal prism as part of a wetland remediation effort tied to the San Francisco Airport runway expansion.
The foremost regional experts were hired to provide specific recommendations appropriate to the site for tidal marsh hydrology, wetland plant and animal habitat, and coastal grass selection. These experts worked towards the realization of the single design by actively interacting with and supporting the work of the full design team.
Hargreaves Associates was the prime consultant, responsible for hiring and managing structural, civil, hydrologic and marine engineers as well as architects, a grass specialist, and a wetland specialist. Hargreaves Associates led this team from schematic design through final construction of the project.
Hargreaves Associates was responsible for working with the owner to evolve the design as construction progressed through changing conditions, and directing sub-consultants to adjust their work to accommodate developing site and owner constraints.
