Waterfront Park
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Hargreaves Associates’ design for Downtown Airpark Waterfront transforms this once sprawling oil-production field and commercial airstrip, into a boldly restored waterfront park for all of Oklahoma City to enjoy. With over 15-acres of public open space located along 1500’ of riverfront, the park will reconnect the community with the river in new ways and provide a vibrant setting for riverfront activities including civic events, cultural performances, recreation and respite.
At the larger scale, Airpark functions as the western gateway to Oklahoma City’s emerging southern riverfront district. The American Indian Cultural Center, another Hargreaves Associates project, adds to this growing riverfront district at its eastern gateway over 250-acres of cultural parks and riverfront activities. Working in tandem, Airpark and the American Indian Cultural Center frame the southern riverfront and will serve as broad economic catalysts for future urban development along the river and beyond. In conjunction with the Core to Shore program and other redevelopment initiatives, Airpark will reunite Oklahoma City with its riverfront and usher in a period of urban revitalization and growth.
