Niagara Falls Heritage Gateway
Niagara Falls, NY
The Gateway creates a landscape bridge between Niagara Falls State Park and Downtown Niagara Falls, adapting a historic industrial site into diverse public spaces that celebrates the area's natural resources and canal heritage.

Spread across two urban blocks, the Gateway converts historic industrial land into accessible parkland for residents and visitors. The diversely planted “Gorge” side features woodland gardens, stormwater meadows, and a great lawn with pavilion for performances and gatherings. The character transitions to a more urban condition on the “Canal” side, where the historic 100-foot-wide hydraulic canal is expressed through an interactive water feature, tree-lined gathering spaces, and plazas designed for seasonal activities including an ice rink. The Railroad Promenade connects both sides, following the route of historic rail tracks to create pedestrian continuity between the State Park and downtown. The design is grounded in the industrial heritage and diverse natural resources of Niagara Falls, creating new opportunities for family-friendly activities while supporting plans for future mixed-use development.
