Silver Lake Reservoir Complex Master Plan
Los Angeles, California

Hargreaves Jones worked with the City of Los Angeles and community of Silver Lake to develop a master plan vision to repurpose this iconic urban water infrastructure into a resilient legacy park that will endure for generations.

The new 116-arce Park is conceived as a hybrid infrastructure that amplifies the use of the reservoir water bodies to attract and sustain wildlife, connect with nature and neighbors, and educate.

The Master Plan proposes to transform the reservoir’s banks and introduce freshwater wetlands and aquatic habitat for the first time in over 100 years, an ecology that was slowly erased to meet the needs of a growing Los Angeles and restores remnant woodland habitat from the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains.  Woven within these bold environmental design moves are an extensive network of trails, a promenade, gardens, overlooks, and flexible lawns all stitched together by a 2.5-mile, tree-lined promenade.
