Mission Rock Seawall 337
San Francisco, CA

The Mission Rock Seawall 337 design, with SMWM (now P+W) and Atelier Ten, draws upon the rich history of the site, creating expansive open spaces that interact with and celebrate the water, preserving and creating dramatic views out to the Bay. The design expands upon the Mission Bay heritage of Pier 48, highlighting maritime history and the uncommon beauty of the San Francisco waterfront.

The plan has a distinctly open character, in keeping with the public trust that has historically guided development along the waterfront. The proposal includes over 6-acres of waterfront open space aimed at the downtown skyline where the China Basin shore curves south to meet the bay; featuring a great lawn, waterfront park, wetlands, mixed-use public spaces, venues for events and festivals; all amplifying the historical significance and cultural context of the site. The Mission Rock Seawall 337 design creates a compelling legacy for future generations while generating revenues for the Port’s infrastructure, historical preservation and waterfront open space needs.
